Reserveage™ Organics partners with Food4Kids

Jennifer Moore had no idea how big of a problem childhood hunger was in her child’s school until she brought pizza in for a birthday party. There were children in the class who were extremely hungry, taking multiple slices at a time. After speaking with the teacher, she quickly realized that these children often exhibited behaviors like this. These children were chronically hungry. That is when Moore decided to see how she could help.

According to the USDA, more than 16 million children in 2010 lived in households without sufficient food. Moore decided to address the need in her own community by founding the Food 4 Kids Backpack Program of North Central Florida. This program is based in Gainesville, Florida and was modeled after the National Feeding America Backpack Program.

In a partnership with Food4Kids, Reserveage Organics has adopted a local elementary school to support chronically hungry children in need. Each week, Reserveage team members donate food to pack in backpacks, volunteer at the school to fill them, and spread awareness.

The program provides food for eligible children over the weekends and during extended breaks from school when other resources are not available. Children who are referred into the program receive rolling backpacks filled with food every Friday. On Monday, the children return the backpacks to be refilled and redistributed at the end of the week.

DAWN Network launches blog!

Developing and Advancing Women in Naturals (DAWN) is a national organization working to propel a critical mass of female leaders in the natural products industry. DAWN was founded in the summer of 2011 by Naomi Whittel, CEO and Founder of Reserveage Organics. Naomi is well aware of both the obstacles and opportunities confronting women in business today, and sees the natural products industry as the perfect milieu for women to make a broad impact.

The DAWN network blog features original and published articles concerning women in business, from issues we face to ways we can surmount them. In our current “Executive Spotlight,” we ask The Vitamin Shoppe executive Rikke Cumberbatch about what drives her to excel in the naturals industry today. We’ll also be featuring Digestive Care and Nutrition Expert Brenda Watson. In addition, we examine the importance of “envisioning” in female leadership appraisal and development.

We foresee both the website and blog as forums for mentorship and sponsorship tools, active networking facilitation, self-assessments, e-newsletter distribution, industry job searches and more. We are currently designing these highly interactive elements and welcome all ideas and suggestions you may have during this process. If you are interested in writing for our blog or newsletter issues, please email  info@dawnnetwork.org with your thoughts or for more information.
